The T420s supports mSATA SSDs in the WWAN slot. That way you don't need to buy an Ultrabay HDD carddy.

The issue with the T4x/T6s Ultrabay is that is's actually an IDE/PATA interface, and the caddy contains an IDE to SATA bridge chip. Such a setup reduces the maximum transfer speed to around 100 megabytes/sec.
The T420s Ultrabay has a native SATA interface-- IIRC it's SATA III, with a theoretical maximum speed of 600 megabytes/sec.

Ah, yes ... mSATA ...
another 1st ... for me ...
What about putting the Windoze "SwapFile/Hibernation" files there
What is the max mSATA "DataDisk" option
IMO, it's better to increase the RAM rather than put the swap file on an SSD. Also, I believe the fast boot times that come with SSDs make hibernation unnecessary.
With regards to maximum mSATA SSD size, a
quick Amazon search would prove useful.

There is no difference, partition your ssd as you see fit.

I don't see a problem with partitioning SSDs. You only need to properly align the partitions --usually at multiples of 1MB (1,048,576 bytes).

SATA II vs SATA III performance threshold? It exists, but you probably won't notice it too much.
mSATA SSD size: don't get anything smaller than 120GB, unless you're using Linux only. If you can find a 240-250GB SSD at a good price, get it. It's always good to have extra free space.
Having said that, I managed to cram both Windows 7 and Linux into a 60GB mSATA SSD on my X220-- but this only works because I use Linux primarily, so there's little chance for Windows to get bloated with temp files, and other cruft. When the time comes that I'd need to replace it I'd get a 120GB.
Like normal SSDs, larger-capacity mSATA SSDs are generally faster than the smaller ones.
