T440p storage question.
As I understand it, the T440p has three options for internal storage :
(1) Internal SATA slot for a 2.5" drive.
(2) SATA slot for a 2.5" drive in the Ultrabay/caddy.
(3) M.2 slot.
My question:
Do all of these slots work at SATA3 6Gbps ? Is the interface for all three SATA3 6Gbps ? Will new SATA3 6Gbps SSDs work at SATA3 6Gbps speeds for all three ?
What is the maximum capacity for each slot ?

Re: T440p storage question.
Welcome to the Forum.
All 3 work at least at SATA III speed.
The only capacity limit (all 1TB or more) is their current market availability and more important: your wallet.

Re: T440p storage question.
By at least you mean they will go higher than 6Gbps ? maybe you meant at most ?

Re: T440p storage question.
At least.
SATA III = 6GB/s
The M.2 WWAN slot, depending on version, can be up to 32GB/s.

Re: T440p storage question.
Can you give me an example of a compatible SSD that works at 32 Gbps ?
Re: T440p storage question.
"depending on version" probably refers to M.2 slots newer than the T440p that use NVMe instead of SATA. An NVMe/PCIe x4 slot would have max speed of 32 Gbps.
I don't think you can put more than 512 GB in the M.2 slot unless you use an extender cable to put the actual drive somewhere else. The slot is only 42mm and I've never seen a 1 TB drive that small. I've got one of these cables but haven't looked yet to see if I can route it to the 2.5" bay.
OTOH you can certainly get 2.5" SSDs at 4 TB and 2.5" drives are generally cheaper for same capacity than M.2 SATA drives. Haven't seen an M.2 drive with more than 2 TB yet. The 2.5" limit is mostly just a marketing limit because they don't see enough people being willing and able to buy drives that expensive for personal systems. There are 15 TB SAS drives in 2.5" x 15mm enterprise format.
