Swapping in a W500 motherboard: Worth it?

#1 Post by ko » Mon Oct 29, 2018 8:54 pm

I'm looking at this motherboard: https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-63Y1435-Le ... 2395340826

Should I upgrade and swap for the extra GPU performance? I use Photoshop and Premiere Pro often and I'm not sure that the 256MB of VRAM in my T500 will cut it.
Currently running:

W541 (Daily driver)
X230 (Portable)
X61tv (X61t with a build-in TV tuner)
T500 (Workstation)

IMO not worth it.

The FireGL V5700 is identical to the Radeon 3650 in performance, except in some specific CAD programs of the old era, and in any modern software I'm sure the bottleneck will be due to the age of the technology.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll spend the money instead on a LED mod for my shiny new LP154WU1-TLC2 I'm getting in a few days (if feasible) :P
