T400 Panel Upgrade

#1 Post by Dongers » Fri Jun 21, 2019 9:52 am

Working on a T400 (6474-W8Q, Intel/Non Switach-able graphics) and it has a 1280x800 Panel on it.

I'd like to get some more panel real estate and am looking to upgrade to a 1440x900. Not worried about amazing colours/viewing angles/brightness etc (this is not my daily driver, and is for playing around with libre/coreboot) so am looking at the cheapest possible solution, just to give me some more pixels.

Looked at the panel in my T61 (1440x900) but cant do a direct swap, as cables are different. However, as looking at cheapest possible solution, i would be willing to swap the panels around if i can find the correct cables to enable this.

Do-able?

Or am I looking at a new panel for the T400 regardless? Seen this on Fleabay [url]https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14-1-LCD-SCR ... hU-B~Z[url] but not sure if it would be a direct replacement or if i need additional/different cables

Any ideas?

Cheers

What you're looking at is a generic third party screen. I usually recommend staying away from these.

Find a damaged/incomplete T400 with a working WXGA+ panel, swap the lids. Done.

Thought of that, but generally finding a working screen (with a description that adequately describes it correctly as to the model/type of screen) is usually quite difficult.

Question is (even tho it IS a generic screen) would it be a direct replacement for what i have, or will i need different cables (as per the T61 panel)

Incidentally, just worked out the current panel is AUO B141EW04 if that is any use...?

You're most likely not going to know that until the panel shows up at your door.

Good luck.

But that is what i'm asking....can anyone tell me..?

Can i swap 1440x900 T61 screen into a T400 chassis, and what cable do i need if i can?

And vice versa 1280x800 T400 screen into a T61, and what cable do i need?

If not, can anyone recommend a 1440x900 panel and cable to fit a T400 chassis..?

Cheers

Connections on the board are different between T61 and T400.

The connector on the screen, however, should be the same.

You can test the panel from T61 in the T400, using the T400 cable. I've never done this myself and can't say whether you'll get the proper resolution, but you'll inflict no damage AFAIK

Good luck.

Aha! That's interesting to know!

I had already broken removed lids to do a lid swap but stopped when realized the mobo connectors were different. If the connectors on the panels are the same tho, i will look at just swapping panels instead....

Panel swap worked OK.

T400 now has 1440x900 panel and the T61 the 1280x800. Cabling within the lids was the same, even if different connectors for the mobos
