ThinkPad T420i screen information

#1 Post by BishopBlack » Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:39 am

Ok, let me start by saying hello to everyone here at the ThinkPads forum. I'm new to the site and hope to learn a bit from the information contained here.

With that out of the way, let me explain what brought me here.

I have a ThinkPad T420i with the LVDS HD 1366 x 768 screen with the horrendously grotesque viewing angles and color reproduction.
I have seen on a few sites that there were many people that were able to upgrade their screens to the HD+ screen at 1600 x 900, and a few that detailed their upgrades to the screen from the X1 Carbon, which had better viewing angles and what not.

The question I have is, does anyone know of a place where a person can still get an extended cable to accommodate the X1's screen in the T420i?

Or if possible, is there anyone that has information on where one could find the LVDS to eDP conversion for installing the 1080p FHD IPS screen i have also seen on a few sites?

I would honestly rather have the 1080 IPS screen, but if not possible, maybe just the X1's extended screen cable upgrade.

Thanks in advance and if this is posted in the wrong place, I do apologize. Im working with a 6" screen on my Huawei Mate 10 Pro for now until I get my laptops out of storage.

Regarding the 1080p kit, try asking in the Thinkpad subreddit. Some have posted about their modded T420's there.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
I have recently converted my t430 to FHD IPS screen. I have a bunch of photos and going to publish the manual on my website.
Meanwhile, I can share pictures and details with you. I am kinda swamped, please poke my mailbox if I forget to share details.

Regards, Jiri

Thanks for the replies.
Liking this forum so far, just can't access every page for some reason. There seems to be an issue with my mobile service provider or my device it's self. I tried to check the posts and threads started by others but some failed to load.

Once I get my main laptop out of storage, I can actually log in using it instead and hopefully be able to read all posts.
