Stupid questions from a soon to be T420 owner

#1 Post by kpour » Sat Feb 01, 2020 11:46 pm

Hey guys, I recently purchased a new used T420 to replace my previous dead laptop. My issue is I have purchased a t420 with no OS or HHD, so I was hoping to install windows on a new SSD have my HHD in a disk drive caddy. The issue is the original HHD already has a version of windows installed and there's no way to access it....how do I go about do I go about having a clean windows install and all my files. I was also playing with the idea of adding a mSATA drive but IDK if that would complicate everything. Any help would be much appreciated!

If that HDD is to be used for storage, just format it, while it is already in the Ultrabay adapter (or an external USB casing).
Then copy all your files over on to it.
Use the SSD in the main bay for installing your OS.
Only bother with an mSATA SSD in the WWAN slot, if you want two different OSes.
Remove the other drives before you install an OS on it.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!
