Amazing T420s purchased, advice needed re IPS display

#1 Post by PRAGUEGUY » Sat Feb 08, 2020 2:20 pm

Based on advert, I purchased this T420s in pristine condition from a corporate employee, who sold it for 260 usd inclusive of docking station, external keyboard and Pavilion HP monitor.

I drove to him at night to be the first...could not believe my luck.
the guy was clueless as to what treasure he had...I believe it is the last one with the better keyboard..
My x230 has ben stolen from my car.

Except for the stress and data los, I can be glad for the theft...I would not have looked for a replacement.

But the display is unspeakable...so I cannot really use this without an IPS panel, which apparently requires some converter parts.

Can you pls advice a tried and tested replacement method...including panel specs, and what conversion gizmos I need
ANY LINK FOR THE GIZMO AVAILABLE INSIDE EU HIGHLY APPRECIATED
China, US deliveries end up in a horrible postal customs office...hours wasted in a queing
thanks to all...

I'm selling T420s for around US$100 now days due to conversion rate between USD and AUD so I US$260 sounds really expensive unless its like in brand new condition. Also unless you have the low resolution screen I shouldn't say the 1600x900 screen is that bad, I have been using one for number of years now and it looks fine to me. Compared to mate T480 FHD its actually 100 times better. So when you do get a FHD upgrade make sure you pick up a good model as some of the FHD screens are really bad.

+1. Working with IPS before the swap may cause a bit of shock however ;) especially given that a calibrated -STB3 IPS in X230 is a very good display.

Plus, we do not know what was the equipment - if this is the unit with i7, HD+, 16Gb of RAM, 500Gb SSD + 27" LCD this would sound like a great deal. I've assembled mine for somewhere around that, but including IPS mod with a decent screen :)

Not to mention that each system is worth just as much as somebody is willing to pay for it :)
Too many thinkpads not enough time!
(stable under reduction)
