T520 BIOS settings to boot from DVD?

I recently purchased a t520 as a gift for a friend. I want to install Linux Mint on it from DVD, replacing Windows, but thus far haven't been able to get the system to boot from DVD. I have changed the boot priority, but apparently it wants some other setting changed. Any guidance here?

You may want to format the drive with Windows first.

How would that help? At this stage, I want to boot from Linux Mint on an install DVD, not from the hard disk drive.

Linux uses a different file format and boot system.
Windows interferes with that.

At cold boot, press F12, then select the Linux DVD.

Got it without that step. Not sure what I did to do it, but Mint is installing right now. Thanks for the assist.
