T410 need to replace what are fru numbers that will fit my t410

#1 Post by radiator » Sun Jul 12, 2020 1:48 am

Hi guys!
I have some vertical stripes on my lcd screen and now need to replace it. I find it difficult to grab one at a decent price in Poland sa is it any possibility to fit one from any otheer brand (dell, acer etc) tha will work with my t410? What are fru numbers of lcd that will 100% work with my device. Did any other laptop manufacturer mounted lcds in other brands with similar fru numbers?

Normally you would use Hwinfo or aida64 to pull up some info on what panel is already in there.

This is in mine: LTN141BT09001

A quick google shows that 1,440 x 900 screens are now extremely harder to source. I assume the same of 1,280 x 800 screens. These are 10yr old laptops.

This was not the case a few years ago but it seems the only way is to salvage parts from other faulty T410s.

Over here it becomes a case of how much money do you want to spend on what is essentially a sub $100 laptop in the west.

Looking at ebay gumtree craigs, the prices of working units are WAYY overpriced and people seem to want these old things:

Lenovo Thinkpad T410 Intel i5-M560 2.66GHz 4GB RAM 250GB HDD 14.3" Laptop Linux
Pre-owned · Lenovo · 250 GB
8 bids From United States

Why why?

I do get that there are some places in the world like in South America or Africa where people have to try to keep older hardware intact. I would hesistate to try alternate hardware like a dell e5410/e6410 given that you kind of need to know what's inside these before you go willy nilly buying panels.

FRU numbers are different between laptop manufacturers-- for example the Samsung LTN141BT09001 mentioned in TonyJZX's post would have a Lenovo FRU # of 42T0727, but if another laptop brand uses the same LCD, it won't have the same FRU # as the Lenovo simply because the two companies have different inventory systems.

I've had a bit of success with swapping LCDs from different laptop brands-- the key is to know the brand/model # of the LCD panels themselves, look for their respective datasheets, and compare the following:

* connector type

* connector pinout

* mechanical diagrams/illustrations, with particular attention to the locations of the mounting points

Despite all that prior research, I still get a bit anxious when the laptop is first powered up after an LCD transplant, knowing there's the possibility of screwing up and irreversably damaging something.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch

I assume the same physical panel might have a different ribbon cable when in a 410 vs. a dell 5410.

Although I thought LVDS is the same? Or is it just a protocol and not a physical connector?

Anyway going by that FRU really is eye opening. A whole slew of "Discontinued" and EOL even in CHina... this would tell you the well has truly run dry on classic TP parts.

There were a few above $200 usd but why would you? And to think a few years back the wholesaler I used had piles of 410s in fruitboxes because no one wants 1st gen stuff.

Well, I did succeed in using transplanting an LCD from an HP Compaq to a Dell Inspiron 1525. Fortunately the connector and pinout were the same. One thing I forgot: also compare the locations of the LCD connector in the mechanical diagrams!

LVDS stands for Low Voltage Differential Signalling, and is just a signalling standard; the actual display protocol is FPD-Link (which uses LVDS). Unfortunately, the term LVDS has mistakenly become synonymous with it.

thx a lot guys!
I used hwinfo and my panel number is LP141WX5-TLP3 30 pin.I always thought is was 40 pin connection don't knnow why. I deliberately asked about swapiing from other brand so as I maneged to do it from toshiba to asus in the past. Now I found auctions with replacements parts so keep your fingers crossed I may be lucky to find a cheaper solutions. I will let you know.
