Thinkpad T410 does not charge or charge very slowly
Thinkpad T410 does not charge or charge very slowly
Hi, mi T410 charge the battery very slowly (0.1W) or does not charge at all. To avoid damage to the battery which remained at 0% I charged it manually to 70% with a 1A power supply, strangely the first time the charging current was close to 1A while when I charged it again it was only 0.3. I read in a discussion that they might be fuses, so I checked the ones near the charging connector (F10, F20 if I remember correctly and two others whose numbers I can't remember) and they look fine. The charging port voltages are 0, 0, 3.3, 3.3, 3.3, 15.5, 15.5.
What could be the problem?
Thank

Welcome to the forum.
Have to check if the problem is in the battery or the laptop. Do you have another battery of this kind?

Re: Thinkpad T410 does not charge or charge very slowly
Well this is exactly what I did with my T520 battery 9-cell. I also charged it manually with a 12V power supply to about 60%
So here is an observation you can make:
If you plug in the charger and then unplug the charger, will the laptop stay on? And if it does stay on, does it detect your charger being unplugged?
My T520 has your symptom and at the same time while it works when you unplug the charger, the laptop still thinks it's still charging until you shut it off and turn it back on. And if you have this symptom, then it's very likely to be your motherboard. I know this the hard way because I have two such motherboards, one used to be fully working. And when I was probing around on the working motherboard with my multimeter to find the source of this problem on my other motherboard, I shorted 2 legs of the battery charger IC and now that board behaves exactly the same!
So in summary, if you have the same symptom as mine, then it's likely to be a defective battery IC chip. You can try to replace it if you have such skills, but I have failed and killed one of the boards so I decided to leave the other one as-is, use it as a machine for my mother to watch some pirated films on a TV and let it rot like that.

Re: Thinkpad T410 does not charge or charge very slowly
Yes, the laptop stays on but in my case it detects that the charger has been disconnected.
