T520 battery mystery

I replaced my T520 system board and everything works except the battery. Curiously, it registers as being connected and will accept a charge. But as soon as I remove the AC adapter the system is dead. I have tried 3 different batteries of varying health that all work in different units. I can only assume there is a fault somewhere on the board. Any suggestions? I've tried all the standard fixes like full reset to no avail. Thanks.

So the battery can be charged in the laptop, but the laptop won't run off the battery?

After you disconnect AC and it dies, can you turn it on while on battery?

No. It's as if there is no power source.
