T520 Power Management Question

#1 Post by Callahan » Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:29 pm

Just bought a T520 / Windows 7 Pro notebook ... only had it for two days so I am still checking things out. The battery is at 98% and it says 'not charging'. However, I would like the charge to be lower ... start around 70% and stop around 75%. I can't find any place in Power Management to put these totals into.

It has Power Management 3.63 installed. Do I need to install another Power Management version to be able to do this? I have this option with ThinkVantage / ThinkPad Configuration in my ThinkPad T42 with Windows XP. Is there something similar for the T520 with Windows 7 Pro installed?

Hi, I don't have a T520 yet, but is will be arriving any day now. I do have a T420 running Windows 7 Pro with the function you are looking for. I use Power Manager 6.68.15. Someone has a link to it on the forum. I am a newbie, so I don't know how to link to his post. If you search "Where to download old versions of Power Manager", the last (8th) reply has a link to the file (n1au415w.exe). Good luck!

Hey thanks a lot for the assistance. I found the link and got the download ... will try it out later today. Yes, I really like the T520 so far ... it's Windows 7 that I'm having trouble with. I have two TP T42s and after using Windows XP for all these years ... it's a struggle with Win 7.

I wanted to get a Win 7 laptop about 6 years ago at a Walmart Black Friday sale ... they still had some Win 7 laptops for sale as I remember. However, I didn't buy one. My T42s have all the programs I need and use installed. My problem over the last few years is with using older - outdated browsers on the internet. It has become a struggle with many web pages.

So my T42s will have all the software programs I like to use. I will put some on the T520 ... x64 versions that I can now use and some better working browsers. I bought the T520 from a forum member mentioned in another T520 post ... "Searching for a "good" T520". I was looking on eBay at T420s and T520s and then I found the link someone mentioned in that post. Glad I didn't buy anything from eBay ... got a better deal I'm sure and a nice member to do business with. He had four T520s for sale and I think there are two left. He has some other TP models also. The T520 I got is in great shape, don't know what I might have got from eBay.

I downloaded some information on how to make Win 7 look like XP ... I think that will work better for me and then I will install that Power Manager 6.68.15 version ... thanks again. Hope you like your T520 due any day. I still like my T42s but this 'new' T520 is a nice 'step up'.

You may need to enable advanced mode in power manager. From there you can find the button to open up battery charge threshold settings.

Yes, the Advanced tab and then the customize button if I remember. That may have been like that on the other Power Management version but I don't exactly remember. I got the Start and Off settings set up.
