ThinkPad T520 coreboot

hello,
I have already bought an i7-3610QM for my ThinkPad T520 because I have heard it works with coreboot.
But, I can't seem to even read the BIOS chip labeled SPI1 on it with any SOIC-8 clips.
It doesn't look as a normal chip does, and it looks like more of a WSON-8 chip. I don't have the exact chip number.
How should I approach this?
I don't want to solder directly onto the board either, as I am new to soldering.
thanks
