Intel QX9300?

Intel QX9300?
Is there any reason (so far) that these things won't take a QX9300?
Model: Lenovo ThinkPad T400
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1067 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 Cache)
RAM: 4 GB PC-8500 (1067 MHz, Dual-channel)
HDD: 500 GB, 54000 RPM
Audio: Conexant CX20561 (192 kHz, 24-bit)
Video: Intel GMA 4500MHD
Wireless: Intel 5300
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1067 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 Cache)
RAM: 4 GB PC-8500 (1067 MHz, Dual-channel)
HDD: 500 GB, 54000 RPM
Audio: Conexant CX20561 (192 kHz, 24-bit)
Video: Intel GMA 4500MHD
Wireless: Intel 5300

So far, CPUs with 25W TDP and 35W TDP are supported. The QX9300 supposedly has a 45W TDP (see here).
That is probably out of spec for a T400/T500 - but we won't know for sure if it will stay cool until somebody tries it.

I'm more worried about the chipset not handling four cores properly. Or as another example, to put a Core 2 in a T60, you need a Rev. 03 motherboard.

Interesting. I hadn't seen that. The original Intel slides that people had leaked had the higher number. We will need to wait and see where it really comes out. 35W would be surprising - since that is <9W/core. Intel has not been anywhere close to that at 2.5GHz in 45nm so far - but who knows. Note that the same site is now more tentative. (here)
The chipset will be fine. The Montevina platform was designed to support quad-core. Any new CPU may require BIOS support though.

I think that's probably right. To be competitive, the W700 should have the capability to support the "extreme" CPUs at 44W TDP and the quad core at 45W TDP as well as hold two drives. Honestly I am confused. I am a dedicated follower of the T line (with only one X61s model on hands when I want to travel light).
So which model would I go for to replace my T60p ?
What I see from an Excel spreadsheet is that T400 replaces T61 with 14" screens, T500 replaces T61 with 15", and W500 replaces T61p, but the exact difference escapes me.
Is it just a "next step", sort of T62, new chipset and P or T family CPU? I have C2D T7600 2.33GHz and I see little to no reason to upgrade (except for an ability to use more then 3GB of RAM, current chipset won't let me). Or am I missing something and there's more?
BTW, what's Robson 2GB?

Well, there's DDR3 ram (somewhat overrated). WiMax is supposed to be something big, I guess. I have not - but I can confirm that the QX9300 is a 45W TDP part. I think it will have heat problems at heavy load in the W500/T500 if you use 3D at the same time.

I also think it may be not such a good idea to put a 45watt processor in these machines .. at least if you have discrete graphics. .... but not only for the heat, it *may* also be a risk for the AC adapter, which may not be enough powerful under load circunstances while charging the battery.. note you are increasing the power requirements 10 watts... (more than 10%). In any case we can probably assume for machines with integrated graphics that the reduction in power consumption provided by the intel graphics chip could offset the increase due to the 4-core processor.. so I would guess you would be in the safe side (AC adapter AND probably heat dissipation wise) then.
