Does the 6-cell battery on the T400 stick out?

#1 Post by andrw » Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:32 pm

I can't be sure but it seems like the T400's 6-cell battery will not stick out (from looking at the spec sheet).

Does anybody have an idea this? Thanks in advance.

huh.. does that mean the 4-cell battery is as large as the 6-cell ones in terms of physical size? I thought usually only the smallest capacity would not be sticking out.

They've managed to shrink their battery tech from what I've read. The 6-cell is flush. I'm not sure whether the 9-cell is flush or not.

Looks like one of the battery-types sticks out from the back:

For what it is worth, Lenovo sales said that the 4 cell is flush, and the 6 cell sticks out the back...

In the spec sheet the measurements are listed with "4/6 cell battery", as if they were the same size.

I spoke with a rep, the 6-cell is "flush with the system".

Well here's what the customization page says about the T400:
Note: The 6, 7, 8, and 9 cell batteries are larger than the standard 4 cell battery and extend beyond the back of the notebook. They are also slightly heavier than the standard 4 cell battery.
Now it also says this about the T500 as well, but a four cell battery is the smallest you can get, so we have an inconsistency here.
Model: Lenovo ThinkPad T400
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1067 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 Cache)
RAM: 4 GB PC-8500 (1067 MHz, Dual-channel)
HDD: 500 GB, 54000 RPM
Audio: Conexant CX20561 (192 kHz, 24-bit)
Video: Intel GMA 4500MHD
Wireless: Intel 5300

Doesn't the T400 use the same batteries as the T61? (The 9-cell battery seems to have the same part number.)

I don't think they're compatible.

Could you explain your reasoning? The T400/T500 datasheet lists a 9cell battery as an accessory using part #43R2499 -- the same as the 9cell for the T61/R61.

The Personal Systems Reference document also seems to agree.

Now while Lenovo is guilty of lots of typos in their documentation, this seems to be consistent across different documents.

We'll find out the reality in time though as systems hit the streets.

I can't remember where I read it I'm afraid. But the technology is different. So I'm assuming they're going to be using different part numbers. As you say, we'll see when the reviews come out.

The tabook could be wrong, but I looked and it lists the exact same batteries for the T400 and T61 14".

While tabook is not 100% infallible, it's far more reliable than their web-site.
