They said my 8/5/08 order was going to ship 8/26/08. Now order is estimated at 9/9/08.
So I canceled my order and placed a new order for a different machine. With the new discounts, I ended up getting a better configured machine for the same price of the old order.

Placed my order on 8/11, scheduled ship date 8/28... just called and they told me my order was now scheduled to ship the week of 9/8... which I take to include 9/8 to 9/13... this is because of a shortage of 6 cell batteries.
I can't figure out why Lenovo would launch a new line of Thinkpads if their supply chain wasn't capable of delivering systems in a timely manner... more than 1 month to wait for a laptop to be built?

OK, strange. As mentioned I ordered on 8/31. Something shipped today, no idea what yet. I have trouble believing it's the laptop already.

Called Lenovo, my system is delayed till 9/12 (from 9/4)
because of a delay with the 9 cell batteries. It's built and sitting in Hong Kong...just needs a battery. Get a 6 cell if you need this thing before college starts up

I had a friend who works for IBM who just called to order a new battery for her T60, and was told it would be a month or longer... when she asked why, they told her that two battery warehouses had burned down (they suspect arson.) I'm thinking that perhaps the reserves for older models may be hard to come by in the next month or so as well.

Well, my shipment is 3.6 kilograms. That sounds like a laptop. How on earth did my order on 8/31 slip out so quickly?
edit: looks like it just bounced through Incheon, Korea.

6 cell batteries seem in good supply (unlike the 9 cell). I bet Lenovo isn't processing any more 9 cell orders until they get a stock in so they're just getting orders with 6 cells through real quick.

The computer is very nice. The keyboard flexs a bit, but it still seems like a great keyboard. The wireless is awesome, I got about 1 block of range with a regular power Buffalo 54g router. Screen is extra bright.
If you order with XP, it comes loaded and boots right up. You don't have to downgrade or anything. Wake from Sleep is quick and re-acquires wireless almost instantly.
Absolutely no noise and no heat while surfing. I changed the bios to integrated. When you do this, you have to download the driver with Lenovo Update. I only bought the discrete chip for ease of resale.
This is the best Thinkpad I have owned.
