Lenovo is back...But with what...Who's ordered a T400/T500??

And with that, I'm back, too!

I'm going to carry the new T series as part of my business. However, NO IPS, according to another thread, NO decent screens, others have alluded to cheap manufacturing...so I dare ask the question...is it time to jump ship to another manufacturer?
I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've owned 12 Thinkpads in 9 years.
What do you think, guys?

And if I remember right, everyone said the T60 was going to be a flop.

I'm sure it won't be a flop. I just read up on the W500 series...I wonder what difference the ATI Hybrid Graphics with 512MB will make.
I guess both the T500's, and W500's will have the SAME LCD? Are the screens at least better than the T61/p's, to anyone's knowledge? I would pay an extra $1,000 for a better display.

We need to wait for reviews of the new models to show up before judging. But ThinkPads are probably still the best around when you want a durable machine.
I've had an Asus for a while now, and it is a piece of crap, literally. The screen plastic is falling apart, and the notebook overheats. With a new ThinkPad I know I'll have a more robust computer, running cooler. And good keyboard...
Too bad it's nearly impossible to get your dream ThinkPad, with LED screen, displayport, webcam and good videocard.

I considered jumping to the new Dells (XPS) when the M1330 was getting rave reviews, and my wife ended up replacing her T42 with one. What a mistake - that Dell is a real piece of junk - soft keyboard and cheap build quality. Even if Thinkpads have fallen from their glory, I'll still probably replace my T42 with another TP after seeing how bad some of the competition is...

Other than the display, how have they fallen from their glory? This T60 I've got is the best machine I've ever worked with...period.

That's the problem.
T60 > T61.
So how will the T400/T500 be? I'm a bit skeptical.
As far as looks go, they are almost identical to the T61, i.e., on the ugly side.

hmm... i'm looking forward to a T400. I have a T60 now and it's perfectly fine but i like keeping up with technology so i'm going for one of those with a WXGA+, LED and webcam.
I was thinking of getting a T61 instead since it's plenty fast and is like 50% cheaper (almost). too many choices, not enough money!

T61 would be a waste. If you upgrade the CPU in your T60 to a T7600, you'll get a kickass PC that will keep up with any T61 out there, and will have the additional benefit of not being a T61.

Will be cheaper too.

ThinkPads aren't beautiful, neither are Terminators. Both get the job done and tend to not die very easily. If you want something that looks pretty, there's the IdeaPad. Or that SL series that doesn't belong.

In my opinion the black brick is the perfect laptop design. Even from an aeththetic standpoint. No Macbook can compete with it. But I realize I am a minority.
Same goes for Terminators. Perfect design

Up and including the T60 I have found Thinkpads very pretty (having seen and used an X3x, T4x and the T60. Heck, even the huge fat 15" R50 is nice-looking, in a typical tank style. The T61 with its thick asymmetric screen bezel was the first major turnoff for me, and unfortunately the T400/T500/W500/X200 series seem to take off after it (the X200 is symmetric at least, but the bezel on the top is way too thick).
