UWB Integrated?

#1 Post by thinkfish » Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:55 am

So can someone who has received a T400 confirm whether or not the units ship with the integrated UWB?

When you customize in the store is says...

"Intel® Turbo Memory hard drive cache
Selection of Intel Turbo Memory hard drive cache does not allow a configuration with Integrated UWB WPAN."

This could imply that UWB is standard unless you select the Turbo memory.

The wording is confusing but the way I believe it is intended is that if you don't get Intel Turbo Memory or UWB then the extra mini-PCI space is unpopulated. Otherwise, you can have one or the other but not both.

My T400 did not ship with UWB. The space is unpopulated.

UWB

#4 Post by stephenaron » Wed Sep 03, 2008 11:05 pm

i was under the impression that if you dont order the Turbo, than UWB would be installed standard. Its not an option you could pick. my t400 arrived today. already doing a "restore to factory" reset. [censored] that they installed Office 2007 even though you dont select the option. On this machine i want Office 2003. I uninstalled 07, but it caused problems so i am restoring hte HD to factory again.

I have both UWB and Intel Turbo Memory on my T61p (3 weeks after my order it was not possible to choose such combination).
I'm not sure what's the reason they removed UWB from the configuration if there's Intel Turbo Memory on board - but I don't believe that the main reason is just an ocupied slot (it worked like this without any problems before, so it can't be lack of space) ...

I seem to recall reading somewhere that UWB would be available "later in 2008"

What gave you that impression? Just curious, since the only info on UWB I've seen was that it would be offered later in the year.

Lenovo's website tell you that if you get Turbo memory then you can't get UWB. So it is logical to assume that if you get turbo than UWB will be there. However, Lenovo's website is awful and gives very little and misleading information that always leaves a ton of questions.
With the T61 thr turbo mem wouldn't allow you to have WWAN.

I swear Lenovo could sell a ton more if they made a good descriptive accurate website.

UWB and enhanced wifi/WiMax come later in the year. I wish the W500s had LED screen options as well. Waiting until Christmas time to order mine.

I don't think so. You can have one or the other or neither, but not both.

oh oh despite the warning, I still selected both and seems my order was accepted. So won't know if I get both or not till my T400 arrives. 8)

I'm sure curious to find out! AFAIK they both would use the same mini-PCI connection. Maybe they'll ship the extra in a box.

That was a typing error. I mean that if you get the turbo memory, thent eh UWB will NOT be there.

I did not order the turbo memory.
If anyone knows how to check if the UWB is installed, let me know, and I can check mine.

Hi kingweb
Because I am not sure if I can identify UWB among the list from device manager. I happened to open below utility
Just check start menu => ThinkVantage => Mobile Broadband Connect
If UWB device is not in use system the utility and pop-up dialogue
box will let you know "UWB device is not found"

After checking serveral times on order confirmation list and shooting serveral rounds of e-mails.
Lenovo admits that UWB doesn't come with Turbo memory at the same time. AND offers credit refund.....
I just responded give me UWB components I ordered on-line at Lenovo website. I can't figure out how come such things happen and fed up with Lenovo's cold and slow response. I'm thinking of file in compliant to FTC on my purchase... Any one who wants to buy self configured Lenovo laptop, Please be aware that its follow-up service might be very frustrating/bad experiences if anything goes wrong.

I thingk you are wrong. "Mobile Broadband Conect" is for the WWAN, not UWB.
