I am going to need a computer for my studies this fall, and decided I, for the first time ever, wanted the latest and greatest thing. Because I travel a lot, I know I want the t400's smaller screen. I hate being stuck with widescreen, but it seems I have no choice. I noticed that Lenovo offers both LED and CCFL screens. I am used to my t30, but I can get used to change. I want to know peoples opinions of the available screens. (Please, no rants about the non-offered IPS. I know you hate it and I would too if I knew IPS, but I've got to be realistic here.)

I'm also planning on wiping it clean with XP, and am looking to know if there are still major issues left with drivers there (noting that I should back up the swsetup folder first.) I also want to fix the keyboard problem. I've heard that t6x keyboards will fit into the t400, and want to know, if it's true, what model keyboard I should be buying.

I bought both CCFL and LED. But seems LED gets favaroba nwo in users.

Buying T400 with CCFL doesn't have _any_ sense. Forget about it!
LED is the best thing in T400. The same screen as CCFL but much more bright. LED's influence on the time of work on the battery is enormous.
I'd really like to see LED option in T500 WSXGA+ (1680x1050) ...

Define "better" first. Here are some options:

- higher brightness
- lower backlight bleeding (also affects contrast)
- better color balance
- better backlight uniformity
- lower power consumption
- more sturdy (CCFL lamp is a bit fragile comparing to LED backlight)
- thinner display

Type of backlight contributes to the overall display quality by up to 10%. The rest is the panel quality, technology and driver electronics.

I'd rephrase the poll question to: "Which particular T400 display is better, the WXGA or WXGA+ one ?" BTW how many 14" WXGA+ LED panel suppliers are there ?

It's a very valid point, but I've written the questions a little loose on purpose. Where I don't have much experience with what's out there in terms of backlighting, I want to allow each to define their own 'better,' as I asked for an opinion. All I care about is the backlight, and it seems LED takes the favorite in the few opinions I got. I was hoping that users would point out any critical flaws on thier own, such as uneven distribution, a overall brightness that was too low, or a 'washed out' effect. The rest of the technology I'm all set on.
