Small Red Dot on my display
Small Red Dot on my display
So i just got my brand new Thinkpad t400 today and I got home, turned it on, and the XP loading screen came up and there on the upper left portion of the screen is a small red dot. Do I have a bad screen???? Really? I mean its brand new, and this litttle red dot is staring at me? Any ideas? Do i have to send the thing back or will they replace just the screen?
Thoughts anyone?
I'll try to take a picture of it in the morning.

Also, the little red dot is only visable when there is a dark color in the background, like when it's booting up and its all black. Or i just opened paint, and when it was a white background, i couldnt see the dot. But then I made a black box behind it and the red dot appeared.
Frustrating!!!!!!

I have the same type of defect on my T60 (and mine is in an even more noticeable position - towards hte bottom center of the screen).
It will only bother you if you continue to stare at it and dwell on it.
And yes - you are out of luck. Unless you are willing to send it back, get hit with the restocking fee, order a new one and hope that it doesn't have a similar (or worse) defect. IMO, not worth it.

Re: Small Red Dot on my display
I absolute detest any kind of dead pixel as well. Doesn't even matter if it's towards an edge of the screen. IBM had a so-called "dead pixel policy", and Lenovo does as well apparently. The higher the resolution of the screen, the more you're supposed to "allow".jazzys2 wrote:So i just got my brand new Thinkpad t400 today and I got home, turned it on, and the XP loading screen came up and there on the upper left portion of the screen is a small red dot. However! I've owned 12 Thinkpads so far, and one had 2 dead pixels. Gloves were off before I even called customer service. This "dead pixel policy" is just that, a policy, which can be waived! lol...The rep. who picked up the phone immediately noticed that I was not going to accept anything but an immediate replacement, and it was done within a few days.
A quick tip when dealing with CS: Never scream at them, never "demand" anything, never use foul language. That will get you nowhere fast. Is it YOU who want something from THEM. They're NOT obligated to give you what you want, but will, in all likelihood, if you play your cards right.
Be polite, yet insistent. Don't be too aggressive, yet assertive. You want to come off like you're just asking what the procedure is to swap this out, and not asking IF it's possible. That part should assumed!
Someone said "don't dwell on it", which is a good idea. That is, IF you can do that. Different people have different wants and needs, and when I had those 2 dead pixels one time, one of my hands reached for my cellphone, and the other for my Xanax pill bottle. haha...
I'd say get it replaced immediately, IF you really can't live with it.
Peace!

Red pixel refers to a hot pixel which looks fine on white background and shows up as red on black.
Try this: http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
Run this for 10 minutes on the pixel and also try massageing the pixel and at the same time turn on/off the screen (FN + F3).
Lenovo pixel policy for maximum allowed defect pixels:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-69226
This is ISO 13406-II standard and most computer manufacturers have this policy.
