bluescreen while Vista x64 installation (2082-52G)
bluescreen while Vista x64 installation (2082-52G)
Hi,
I tried to install Vista x64 on a new T500 (2082-52G); 4 GB RAM; original MS Boot-DVD incl. SP1.
First everything looks fine; the installer boots from DVD; finds the HDD and starts installing. However, after the first reboot (after installation) I get the BSOD “registry cannot load the hive file“.
After the next reboot I get the message “bootmgr missing“.
I read something about a Vista x64 problem if a system has more than 3 GB RAM. But the fixing patch should be includes the SP1
http://www.overclock.net/intel-memory/2 ... a-fix.html
However it took one of the 2GB DIMMs out of the T500 … next try … same error. Didn’t help. Same problem.
Switching the SATA mode in BIOS didn’t help too.
Also I put the Intel drivers form Lenovo on an USB stick and “served” them to the Vista installer. Vista started installing; but then at the end of the installation I only got the message “missing driver”.
Any ideas out there?

Re: bluescreen while Vista x64 installation (2082-52G)
I haven't had any problems with Vista and 4 GB of RAM (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). I've been using Vista with and without SP1 on my laptop - no problems at all.bbhermann wrote:Hi,

Do you get some error code or just a plain text?

yes, i read already the goole matches
i'm getting the following
STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file).
\Systemroot\System32\config\security
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent or not writeable.
you said you had no problems ... did you use any drivers? or just the std. vista installation dvd?

First I used Vista Basic Home 32-bit installed on my T61p.bbhermann wrote:yes, i read already the goole matches![]()

I created Recovery DVD's using Lenovo'a application, then deleted Recovery Partition and installed Vista Ultimate 64 (many times - cause I was integrating Vista 32-bit Ultimate and then Vista 64-bit Ultimate with SP1 and language packs - I own Vista in english version and wanted to add polish and spanish too).
After that (with new "Vista Ultimate 64 SP1 - ENG PL ESP" on DVD) I installed Vista 64-bit without any drivers and used Lenovo's "System Update " to download all of them. I made a list of drivers installed by "System Update" , downloaded all drivers for my laptop from Lenovo's website and installed Vista again.
On the new installation of Vista I installed all drivers from Lenovo's website, compared it to the list made previously and made a second list - of drivers that I want to use in the last, normal installation.
So, the final step - I installed Vista (without any drivers), then installed all drivers from the final list and that's all - done.
So as you can see - I used Vista Home Basic 32-bit with drivers installed by Lenovo, Vista Ultimate 32-bit without drivers, Vista Ultimate 64-bit without drivers, Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 without drivers, Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 with System Update drivers, Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 with all available drivers and finally Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 with drivers selected by me (I'm not interested in some of them). I use this system since may and don't experience any problems.
The main difference between our situations is that I own T61p, and you own T500 (so there may be some problems caused by incompability of your chipset or SATA driver?).
Did you make a new installation of Vista to check if the problem repeats?
Look at this thread, maybe it could help:

yes, i already read this thread ... and tried it with only 2 GB ... same problem.
however, yes you are right ... i think it is a problem with centrino 2 (ich9 or something else) sata chip.

Wow... Could be that the Vista DVD is somewhat faulty? Have you /could you try another install DVD? Also, could that be due to some sort of hardware problem? Just a few thoughts...

So they are ###$@@. They offer 64-bit Vista in T500.bbhermann wrote:nothing new here. again the same error.
lenovo support told me, that they don't support x64 OS ...
I don't understand the fact they don't care about this problem if they sell T500 with 4 GB RAM and 64-bit OS.

1) What version of Vista did they give you with your laptop?bbhermann wrote:still not solved.
DVD is ok; worked several times. but it tried a second one.
on the same mashine XP SP3 works perfect.
2) How the computer works if you install some other version (like 32-bit?).
3) It's still legal to install 32-bit of Vista if you deinstall 64-bit version (Microsoft Vista licence allows that) - maybe try using the 32-bit temporarly?

RE:BSOD on install
Going out on a limb here, but if you have turbo memory, have you tried removing it? That and the updated dx10 drivers are the biggest differences between XP and Vista with concern to installation problems, and dx10 wouldn't be the problem. If the turbo memory is bad and it's trying to load the registry into it to install (I don't really know how it works, since I've found it just slows things down), it may cause problems. You should also run a memory checker just-in-case.
