I read in another post that the switchable graphics would not work in XP, does anyone know if they will work in linux or OSX?
Thanks!

I don't know but my guess is that it won't work unless someone has written a driver supporting the hot-switching.

Remember that you can still switch in XP or any other OS, you have to reboot and change the BIOS setting for whether you want discrete or integrated. In Vista you left-click the powermanager battery icon and select your choice.

In my case I rarely game, so I pretty much just leave my T400 on the integrated setting to get better battery life and less heat. I do like having the discrete graphics available if I wanted though.

Yeah only vista does switchable graphics on the fly. XP or Linux or...OSX...would require a reboot (as mentioned).

Does anyone know if this option would work if I had Server 2008 x64 installed?

The Vista drivers (and therefore the hot-switching) should work under 2008. I'll know for sure when I put 2008 x64 on my W500 in a few months (running 2003 for now).

I learned the hard way that Vista will only work is you have SP1 installed. So not even Vista with no SPs will work.
