There had been a question here about how to disable this device, but dangnabbit, I can't find it now.
My Verizon WAN modem turns on with this machine, and I can't find a way to disable it. (The hardware device manager doesn't accomplish the task.)
Any ideas?

Yes, that's what I do.
But it never stays off. It always turns itself back on when the machine is resumed or powered up; this requires that I use Fn-F5 to first turn it on and then off. (Somehow, the machine is unaware the WAN light is blinking and apparently on.)

If you go into the bios, under security there should be an option to disable most of the system devices, it should be somewhere in there. That will disable it until you re-enable it in the bios.

Thanks Truk!
That was more extreme a remedy than I had hoped for but it worked just fine.
