Being a novice I am confused as to which displays are`available.
I am interested in a T400 or T500 but the number 1 requirment is a NON reflective display & one that can be use in bright light conditions (so windows do not reflect on the screen & it is bright enough)

Can someone help me understand what is available & the trade offs

Thanks
Larry

Welcome to the forum, Larry!

If you allow me a polite suggestion... (which I trust you will benefit from!), then I suggest that you get acquainted with the Search function available on this forum... and try search for e.g. "glossy" or "non reflective" or "display quality" in the T400/T500 sub-forum. In this way, you will probably be able to find many more user opinions than are probably being to be shared here...

As to what different T400/T500 models are available, please check the thread T400 and T500 Tech Specs and tabook and both of the links pointed to therein. Also, see the threads T500 Review - 2008-10-20 and Reviews? (incl. the post of Sun Sep 21, 2008 8:49 pm) - they may most likely contain interesting and relevant information!

Basically (in T400 and T500's), there are two different type of displays available; one being "CCFL" and the other being "LED" (see the explanation at e.g. CCFL or LED versus LCD versus CCFL). The one capable of the highest light intensity ("more bright") is LED - as wittnessed through its "nits" value. LED displays are however just becoming available (it's the very newest technology!) and is only available on very few LCD's so far ("few" in the sense only certain dimensions and resolutions). The display surface of T400's and T500's are all matte (= anti-glare); see the reference data linked to above.
