T400-No CUSTOM factory restore available

#1 Post by kingweb » Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:03 pm

I just got my replacement T400 after my first one was practically a lemon.

Both the original T400 and the replacemnt have Vista 64 installed.

Neither one of them gives the option for a custom factory restore.
I though maybe just the first one had some problems, but I see the new one doesnt have it either.

I know how to do it, and I know where the option is supposed to appear. It is not there. I had a T61, and I am very familiar with the process.

Anyone?

Mine never has it too. And it has 2 extra drive letter that I really hated.

I've finally downloaded all drivers and copy the software directory into a cd and did a clean install with my own Vista Ultimate 64. Everything is running so nice now.

The downside of course is I lost the one button restore option.

Was thinking of installing XP but Vista just seems to work so nice I gave up that idea.

I tried doing a clean install with a Windows Vista 64 CD. Everything was fine except the ATI Graphics driver. I installed it, and i kept getting and error that windows failed to load the driver. I unintalled and reinstalled several times.

I installed the power manager too (thinkvantage), but no luck.

I was able to get it to work when I set the bios to not allow the OS to see the switchable ability, and I set the default to descrete. But as soon as I went back to switchable, the driver problem came back. WIndows wasn't able to load the driver.

I reformatted and installed winodows again, and I had the same issue.

So I went back to Lenovo's Windows using the recovery CDs, and it works fine.

Anybody know how to get the ATI driver working properly.
I downloaded the latest driver from Lenovo.

Hello Kingweb,

it seems that the choice of doing a custom factory restore is gone
in all new models.
