T400 SPDIF out ?

#1 Post by Toshe » Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:15 pm

I'm looking into buying external speakers & amplifier. I was wondering if the Headphone jack can also serve as SPDIF out? I can't find any sort of documentation nor any detailed technical specifications. Buying the mini dock station isn't an option for me, it costs $300, it has an extremely noisy fan and i don't think it's worth the money for just a dual link DVI and SPDIF out.

The audio codec is Analog Devices AD1984 HD, http://www.analog.com/en/audiovideo-pro ... oduct.html
However in the T400 specs only the following are listed:
an. mic in/dig mic. in
dheadphone out/line out

Any ideas? I've seen other users with HD codecs hooking up an optical/coax SPDIF through the eadphone jack ...

As far as I know, no Thinkpad supports SPDIF out through the headphone jack.

The mini-dock, however, costs much less than $300, and has no fan at all. You're probably confusing it with the full dock.

Still anyone any ideas?

I just got an Advanced Mini-Dock for under $100 on ebay, NEW. This dock for the T400 has so much convenience and added features, it's almost a must. It also organizes the desk nicely. You should be able to get one for no more than $150 - list at $199, I think.

For me the money is not a big issue, I just don't want to carry the dock with me, after all it's a notebook...
