Last night I had a strange issue with my T400. I inserted a movie, and it never ran. I was tired and went to bed. This morning I realized that the drive was powered off. I went to device manager and it said that "there is a previous version of the driver still in memory", or something along those lines. After I restarted the computer, it worked fine.

I called Lenovo and the guy said that maybe it had been the installation of ms office that had caused the problem, which I thought was unlikely. Does anyone know about this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. The computer is brand new, I only installed office and endnote.

There is a option in power manager to power off the DVD drive. You should find the option "Automatic optical driver power off" under "System Settings" in power manager. In that case you should be able to see that the driver is powered off, right click and select to power on again under "Computer" in Windows. I guess this is mean't to save power when running on battery, but you also have the option to enable this feature in power manager when running on AC.

You could check the settings and power manager and maybe that is the reason why you found it to be powered off.

I find it hard to believe that the installation of ms office powered off the DVD.

I actually tried to power the drive on via the right click, to no avail. Moreover, when I went to device manager, it had a warning that the drive had "another driver still in the memory", which I thought was a strange warning. Just a little while ago, the dvd drive was working fine, plugged in and on battery power.
