He doesn't really say much of anything in his review. Other than cheap construction, what are the other reasons I would want to pass on this laptop?

Pretty crappy reviewer......

My .02,

Matt

Lenovo will replace the keyboard with one of the older T61 keyboards if asked.

I think this is another one of those 'It's not positive, like most other reviews, which must be because this reviewer is honest and un-biased, unlike most other reviews out there, which must be done by fans, as they weren't as negative as this one' reviews.

I'd be interested in hearing what he thinks is a good current laptop. It's nice that he compares the T400 to a very old Thinkpad, but performance/feature-wise, you can't really compare them.

But, as he's not a regular reviewer, I doubt that'll happen.

Ah well, anyone is free to make up their own mind ofcourse, but I like my non-shiny new T400, it's a big step up from the Sony I had.

No kidding? I think I would be up for that swap.

T400 Review

I have owned plenty of ThinkPads in the past and now have a T400, X200 and X300 in front of me, all relatively new. There is flex in the T400 keyboard that is not there in the other two. However the X200 and X300 were substantially more expensive than the T400, and comparatively priced laptops from Dell and others also had unpleasant flex in the keyboard. The black finish on the palm rest is not all that uniform on any of the three although it is most uneven on the T400.

The CD/DVD drive on the T400 is kind of flimsy and one has to take care when loading it, but I find that typical of laptop CD/DVD drives

Aside from these it is a very good laptop at a very good price and should have a long service life.
(I do have a software issue with the Roxio Creator software that I hope to get resolved in these forums.)
