Switchable Graphics on T400 with Windows XP

Is it possible when running Windows XP to switch from the ATI discrete graphics adapter to the Intel integrated graphics adapter in order to maximize battery life?

Both the FAQ entry on Switchable Graphics on the Lenovo website and IBM telephone technical support say that switching is only possible with Vista.

However, I seem to recall reading somewhere that, while it cannot be done without rebooting, this can be done even with XP.

Welcome to the forum.

Using XP you can only switch GPU's in the BIOS.

If there is another way I have not heard about it.

With XP, set to Dedicated in bios. Boot to windows. Install the drivers. Reboot back to bios. Set to integrated. Boot windows and install those drivers. You can now switch, although you must reboot and change the setting in bios to do so. It works, but it's very inconvenient.

Thank you. The procedure for switching through the BIOS was what I had heard about before, and was looking for help with.

Two further questions, please: (1) where do I find the driver for the integrated graphics adapter? and (2) how do I install it?

Switch to the intel card in your BIOS ( Config>Display>Graphics Device>Integrated,) go onto Lenovo.com under the drivers and downloads section. Filter it by your computer and OS to see all the drivers, and select 'Video' in the drop down menu above the results. Download the Intel Display Driver and follow the instructions.
