lots of Drivers Missing from ThinkVantage System Update?

#1 Post by alpuzz » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:35 pm

Over the past couple days, I've done clean vista installs on both a T400 and an X200. For some reason in both cases, System Update seems to be suffering from a serious lack of drivers. For example, I get sound and video, but No Intel Wireless, no Bluetooth, no AMT, no modem. I installed ethernet by hand both times, so I'm not sure about that one, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's missing as well. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks,

I don't know why it's missing some drivers/apps, but it's always been like that and what is missing depend on the model as well. Seem like the bluetooth, AMT and modem is always missing. On some Thinkpads i have seen that the APS and Easyeject is missing as well. I guess no one can really tell you why it's not working for some of the drivers/apps except someone from Lenovo.

Until Lenovo enhance system update (if they ever will) i guess you just have to install some drivers/apps manually.

Interesting. I have a T43, and that's what I was basing my experiences on. In the case of the T43 once I install enough drivers to get on the internet, System Update takes care of the rest. It's really slick, and if Lenovo isn't living up to that standard any more, then that's a shame.

I have seen this issue with T400, T500, W500, T61, T61p and X300. Sometimes system update might find a new driver that is not available for manual download as well. I have also found that system update claim that a driver/application is not installed and suggest to download and install even if already installed.

So system update have some issues, but can save you a lot of time by installing most of the stuff you need without having to download/install manually.
