Roxio Creator Business Edition and 2009

My new ThinkPad T400 with Vista Home Basic 32bit came with Roxio Creator "Business Edition" installed. But it does not work - whenever I try to start it (any part of it) I get taken to a registration screen which freezes the system. Then I have a lot of difficulty shutting it down with Task Manager. After several unsuccessful attempts to find out from Roxio what might be wrong I went and purchased a retail edition of Roxio Creator 2009 and did an install. Unfortunately the same problem happens! The system, other Lenovo supplied applications seem to work fine. What should I be looking for that would cause the choking with the Roxio DVD software?
