For those with 4gb ram in their Thinkpads...

So I recently had my system board replaced, and I *seem* to recall various things reporting MORE memory before the replacement, than before.

The BIOS says I have 4096MB memory, as I'd expect.

But when the BIOS prints its diagnostics at startup, it says:

Code: Select all

637K System RAM Passed
4029M Extended RAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
That figure of 4029M is also reported by memtest86+ when I run it.

Is this the normal set of values for system with 4gb of ram? I'm presuming that the 2 BIOS's and the System RAM take up the 67MB missing from that figure, is that the case?

Which model do you have? If it has Intel graphics it takes away some of the ram for the video.

The BIOS's shouldn't take more than a few megabytes. I'm guessing they take 3mb, then 64mb is going to the video card.

I have the kind with the switchable graphics. But I've set it to use the Discrete Graphics exclusively, so it shouldn't be taking system memory for that, should it?

I know the BIOS is different in the T60p from the T400, but are these the diagnostics that appear when you select the BIOS setting to do extended memory testing, and display BIOS info? I have to do both to see the part that claims 4029M... also, it disappears very quickly from the screen on boot, so I had to take a photo of it with my camera to read it.

I think it is just moving to the windows boot before it has a chance to update the counter. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm... interesting. Well, anything's possible.
