Without some explanation of what you want to use it for and where you want to use it, you're not likely to get any sensible answer to your question(s).laser004 wrote:Now I want a WWAN card
If you buy an Ericsson card and its not suitable for you purpose.... no matter how much/little it costs, it will be just wasted money.

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
well, quite obviously I want get mobile internet access and the network would be WCDMA supported by China Unicom
GPS would also be a plus for attracting me
So I am sure that F3507g without a sim lock can be helpful to me
Maybe I should be more specific by title "where to buy cheaper Ericsson F3507g without sim lock"
thanks anyway

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
It's nice to see Lenovo offering a WWAN card at a very reasonable price at last! I was very suprised to see a price of £55.00+VAT considering the equivalent FRU (43Y6479) price is £157.71 inc VAT!!! from IBM UK Service Parts.laser004 wrote:It is really cheap in UK
(Note also - this particular card - Ericsson F3507g - is also available from Dell UK, their price being slightly less than Lenovo's at £136.85 inc VAT).
Another opion is maybe to Source an unlocked cheap Sierra Wireless MC8775 WWAN Card or a Sierra Wireless AirCard AC875U and extract the MC8775 module inside. OR source an unlocked Sierra Wireless AirCard AC880U and extract the MC8780 WWAN Card which will be the equivalent of the Ericsson F3507g in terms of data speeds of up to 7.2Mbps UL / 2.0bps DL as well as GPS - These options are providing your BIOS will accept these cards - more than likely your BIOS will need to be patched to get around the BIOS whitelist check.

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
In Belgium I've found this card in several shops around 70 € ( 62 GBP / 90 USD ). It's an amazing price in comparison with the price of the MC8775 last year (180€ at lenovo spare parts).
I think that if you search on google with the FRU number ( 43R9153 ) you'll find a reseller near your location to buy it at a similar price

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
I bought the WAN card as an option - FRU 43R9153. It is the Ericsson F3507g HSPA modem with GPS, and it is VODAFONE branded. That means, that theoretically it should work ONLY on Vodafone networks. I myself have tested it with the Austrian A1 network (it offers services from Vodafone) and it works splendid. For some reason the 'Mobile Broadband Connect' application from the Thinkvantage menu says 'Your carrier is currently unsupported...' but I have no problems connecting to the network with Access Connections. And it is really fast.
The GPS works without any problems too, it even offers A-GPS. I bought the package from a local retailer and it costed me EUR 61,22.
I haven't tested the card with other carriers yet, but i found a pretty good solution for unlocking the card. So my recomendation is: don't go for the $250 'unlocked' cards on ebay; the card doesn't have a hardware lock.
Also, before buying the card make sure your notebook supports it; there are versions of T400 that don't have the extra antenna and SIM card slot behind/under the battery.
Once I test the card with other two local carriers, I shall post the results. Hopefully I won't be stuck to using Vodafone networks only.

If you want to create a dedicated WWAN profile for your mobile network provider in Access Connections try this:Toshe wrote:I bought the WAN card as an option - FRU 43R9153. 1. Launch Access Connections - Click Manage and then click Create
2. Type in the Name of location profile (eg: Your mobile network name)
3. Select Wireles WAN from the drop down box (Your adapter Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Network Adapter radio button should be already be selected providing you do not have any other Lenovo WWAN cards installed) Click Next>
4. Click the Connect to HSDPA/GPRS network using Access Connections radio button (if not already pre-selected)
5. In the Select WAN settings: drop down box change Automatic Settings to Custom Settings, then click the Edit Settings tab - The HSDPA Network Settings box should appear/open
6. Other should already be pre-seleted in the Known WAN service providers Settings: drop down box
7. Type your mobile network name in the Custom service provider name box followed by your networks APN: and only if applicable User name: Password: and Confirm password: followed by OK
8. Click Next> and then click Finish
You can repeat the above to create multiple WWAN profiles for different mobile networks - Which is what I have done

Thank you!
Looks like Vodafone is screwed
However there is one problem with the card: After resuming windows from sleep the card isn't recognized in access connections; pressing Fn+F5 doesn't list the WAN Radio. The only solution is to restart windows... I didn't find any power-related settings... tried to google for a solution but it looks like just a few people have this card...

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
This problem also exists for a good few DELL users using this card (Dell Wireless 5530 Card) according to some of their forums - My problem with this card is that, quite frequently the card will disconnect from the network be it after a couple of minutes or after 2hrs - The existing MC8780 never had this problem (Using the Sierra Wireless 3g Watcher Utlity).Toshe wrote:However there is one problem with the card: After resuming windows from sleep the card isn't recognized in access connections; pressing Fn+F5 doesn't list the WAN Radio. Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
I think I found a solution to the problem:
1. Install the Registry patch to improve USB device detection on resume from sleep. Download here.
2. Install the Registry patch for Windows Vista USB S3 PM Enablement. Download here.
3. Install the Enable WOL from S3 for Energy Star V4 patch. Download here. (not related but useful)
If you have already installed these patches, either manually or through System Update, do it again.
4. Open Access Connections. On the Connect to the Internet tab, select the Mobile Broadband radio box.
5. When asked for PIN code, type in your code and set it to Remember your password.
These steps have proven to be successful in eliminating the problem on my T400.

Take care if you want to buy it now because here in Beligum the price has suddenly bump up to 100 euros (instead of 70 !).
Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
If I'm in the process of ordering a T400 how would I confirm that it has the necessary antenna? Also, before buying the card make sure your notebook supports it; there are versions of T400 that don't have the extra antenna and SIM card slot behind/under the battery.
Thanks!

In other words I couldn't do the ordering online, it would have to be over the phone...?

Re: where to buy cheaper WWAN card for my T400
Sorry to take this off topic but apart from opening up your machine, how do you know if you've got this Ericsson WWAN card? What should it appear as under Device Manager?
My laptop was sold as including WWAN you see, but it doesn't appear in Access Connections. I do have the SIM card slot behind the battery though.
Thank-you.
