Sound Issue and Disc Drive Eject Issue

#1 Post by tweakfreak1988 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:06 am

Hey All,

I am a proud owner of a T400, however, I've been having some issues that I haven't been able to resolve as of yet.

1) The sound makes intermediate pops and clicks when playing compressed audio. It's only noticeable with a good set of speakers and a trained ear, however, I know it's not normal.

2) My disc drive randomly ejects itself(not physically of course) similar to that of removing a USB device. I couldn't figure it out until I went to event viewer and noticed that my blu-ray drive kept connecting and disconnecting on its own. The interval is random and the duration of the disconnect ranges from 3 sec to 10 sec. If I manually do a safe remove on the disc drive it doesn't bug me... obviously I cant use it though. Plus everytime time it ejects the system lags for a second(including skipping audio) etc. It's rather annoying as you can imagine. Whats most interesting though is that it has a sticker on the drive with the word "Sample".

I have yet to call Lenovo regarding the issue, however, I'm afraid that I will be requested to send my drive(or laptop) to their service center. The problem is that I am currently in Sweden for the next five months and that's rather expensive to do... I did buy Lenovo because they are solid machines, however, I think this is just some driver issue I have to resolve. Below is some information that should help troubleshooting, most notably my OS.

Vista Biz 64-bit
T9600 (2.8G)
4G(2x2G)
320G Hitachi 7k320
Blu-Ray ASM P/N: 42T2516 REV:101
3450 switchable GPU

Let me know your opinion.

Thanks,

Anthony

Pop out the drive and see if the audio is still popping. It sounds to me like a bad motherboard, but that's just an initial opinion. Find out if the drive is related to the popping.

I found that the sound issue was related to a IM application 'Digsby', however, the drive issue still persist.

Check if the drive connector isn't dirty or damaged. Also, take a look inside the machine after you remove the drive to see if there isn't something wrong with the inside connector.

I don't think it's hardware related because if I do a "safely remove" and select the disc drive, it doesn't come back. If the connection was the issue than it would reappear once it makes the connection. I'm going to play some more with drivers... i'm surprised no one else has this.
