T400 Beeps during certain key combinations

#1 Post by futurejp » Sun Feb 08, 2009 3:24 pm

Hi all,

I've had my T400 for a few weeks now and I noticed that every so often it would beep. Couldn't figure out why. I realized this morning that it beeped a few times while I typed, so I started experimenting with the keyboard.

I determined that it beeps when I hold down two keys and press a third. These are the combinations I've found that cause a beep:

AS+Q
AS+W
SD+W
SD+E
DF+E
DF+R
JK+U
JK+I
KL+I
KL+O
L;+O
L;+P

etc.

I can essentially hold down any 2 keys next to each other on a row and then press the key above them or below them and it will beep.

Edit: Actually, I get some cross-keyboard beeping too. For example, the combination

SL+O

results in a beep (holding down the S and L keys and then hitting O).

This is annoying because sometimes when I type fast I have 3 keys down at a time. And it's been causing these mysterious beeps for the past few weeks.

Anyone know how to disable this feature, if it is a feature? Or how to fix it if it's a problem?

Thanks

It's normal, you can disable that in bios under beep warnings...
