I am in trouble and need help; recovery discs NOT working.

So I have a T400 (you may have seen the for sale ad on the marketplace) and I need to restore it to Vista Basic. My brother ordered the Vista basic recovery dvd's from Lenovo, and I made a copy for myself on DVD-R's. Now, when I tried to restore the T400 by pressing the blue button at startup, I get this dreaded message:

"This is not the correct disc" and some more blah blah. This happens no matter which of the three discs I try. Any ideas why this might be happening? And no, I cannot use the rescue partition because I deleted it when I switched to XP Professional.

Note from Admin: Do NOT attempt to evade the word filters by cutesy tricks especially in the subject line.

Why don't you try simply starting your T400 from the startup disk that you made. This will start the Rescue & Recovery program which will erase XP and allow you to place the Vista recovery partition back on your hard drive. From there you can recover your T400 back to the way it was when you opened the box.

I think he's saying the CDs do not work. I think he's got to get new ones through Lenovo.

The discs seem to have all the data on them, and they read just fine (as data DVD's) when I pop them in when booted into XP. Anything I might be able to do to rescue the situation? Maybe re-burn the DVD's on new media?

Try pressing f12 and manually selecting DVD? If they just have a scratch it can ruin rescue media.

Problem solved. New buyer didn't like Vista anyway and wanted to stick with XP Pro. Can a moderator delete or close this thread? Also, thanks for the tips I got from various members!
