Aaargh!!! Vista x64 switchable graphics - Intel Graphics
Aaargh!!! Vista x64 switchable graphics - Intel Graphics
It happens all the time -- after exiting a windows media player, after resuming from sleep or hibernation...
This is a CLEAN new FRESH vista Business x64 install - just 10 hours old.
It has all the newest drivers and software, installed directly from System Update.
I had to reinstall the system because of this problem; turns out it is haunting me, on and on.
When using the ATI graphics the problem disappears, however the ATI graphics are loud and consume too much power.
Additional software installed: Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Office 2007 with Service Pack 1, NOD32 3.0 and Skype. No additional applications! And i hardly doubt these are the ones causing the problems!
If anyone has a clue about this problem, please share!!! And yes, this is a fresh, clean install (as a matter of fact - not for the first time), the video drivers are the most recent, DirectX is updated. Reinstalling the drivers doesn't fix the problem (tried it on my last fresh install).
On Vista 32-bit this didn't happen, however i have 3GB RAM and Vista x32 allocated only 2,5 GB and I had to upgrade to make use of my full memory.

Toshe, that looks pretty much like faulty graphics card. I think it´s time to use your warranty

Re: Aaargh!!! Vista x64 switchable graphics - Intel Graphics
Marin, It turns out this isn't a hardware-related issue. Many users (especially those testing Windows 7) have reported such problems. Perhaps the x64 drivers are faulty -- or something is wrong with my configuration.
Anayway, I was so [censored] off at this issue (which, believe me can be a real pain ..) that I formatted the hard drive and downgraded to Vista Business 32-bit. All the problems are gone.
The Downside is, however, that I won't be able to use my extra 500MB of physical RAM which Vista cannot allocate, and I won't be able to use the 64-bit version of Adobe Photoshop CS4 - which by the way is a lot faster. Hell I'd live with it.
BTW, the Power Manager Gadget is available only on 32-bit Vista.. if anyone would care. I wondered where it was gone.

What Power Manager Gadget? The battery gauge in the taskbar?
Well, that´s actually some good news, at least you know that it´s not a hardware problem. As for the drivers, there should be some diver (fix) for this problem (soon), it´s definitely not normal. And you had to give up x64 with all its goodies...

Re: Aaargh!!! Vista x64 switchable graphics - Intel Graphics
By "Power Manager Gadget", are you referring to the gadget that can be added to Vista's Sidebar? If so then your statement about it being available only for 32-bit Vista is incorrect. I'm running 64-bit Vista and the gadget is available and appears to work. The rest of the Power Manager application also is present and seems to work, including the battery meter in the taskbar.
