Lenovo(India) support wants me to change battery . Are they pulling a fast one on me?.
I have noticed that it doesnot eat power if shutdown properly. But only goobles up power(6-8 %)
if requested to hibernate.
on persistent help calls their second level(?) at smc centre banglore hinted that i should replace the battery.
As the support is still handled by IBM , does anyone have such a weird experience.
My T400 is with a downgraded OS called windows XP service pack 2.
what device is consuming power in hibernate mode?.
I have intels 2GB (extra memory which doesnot work in XP) and a wxga+ tubelightl lcd .

The standard reply to this problem seems to be that Wake-On-Lan is enabled and actively interrupting the hibernation for a few seconds/minutes (i.e., the machine wakes up because of a "magic packet" on the lan port (wired or wireless) and goes back into hibernation shortly thereafter).

I don't think it necessarily has to do with any magic packets actually being received. What seems to be the case is that WoL is enabled, and so the LAN controller does not fully shut down, and still consumes some power.

Wake up on lan is disabled. And the power consumed is 7-8 %(of a full charged battery). that is a loss of power worth 1 Hr 40 mins ias
indicated by the time remaining to fully charge the battery.

Did you disable WoL in the BIOS, and in the driver, as well as "Wake on Link" and "Wait for Link"?

If so, and you are still experiencing the battery drain, the reason is likely different. I've heard suggestions that the Hard drive Active Protection System driver can sometimes mess up.

Device Manager --> Network Adapters --> Click on your LAN Controller --> Advanced Tab

The relevant options should be the three at the bottom of the list. Make sure all are disabled.

My laptop/notebook (a T400 +) does not seem to be consuming power in Hibernate mode after i disabled The LAN wakeup features as
advised above.
Thanks to dr_st and all who replied to my help cry.
Lenovos India Helpdesk though helpful was of no use,to resolve the Query.
They made me download and update all sorts of updated drivers for no apperent advantage.

Can I offer my services to T400 software developergroup?.I will need this group if i agree to that.
