4 External Monitors with Advanced Dock Question

#1 Post by kingweb » Sun Mar 01, 2009 7:51 pm

Hi,
I currently use 2 external monitors thru the advanced mini dock.

However, I want to go with 4 external monitors now. I know that I need the "advanced dock" and a graphics card for it.

Can anyone recommend a graphics card ( I am not a gamer ) for the advanced dock?

Also, I want to confirm, will all 4 monitors be treated by the T400 as individual monitors? I don't want the computer to treat them a 1 monitor split in 2 pieces.
Basically I want to be able to have a different maximized windows in each monitor.
Also, I need WUXGA (1900x1200) for each of the 4 monitors.

Thanks.
George

I just noticed on Lenovo's website that the PCI card only works with XP and not Vista? Is this true?

Read the 4th bullet.

So, you read the fourth bullet, but did you also follow the link given in that bullet?

I did follow the link, and there is no real information there about my question. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even mention the T400. It looks like lenovo hasn't taken the time to update their website in a very long time.

It does mention the T400 (in that it is compatible with the dock). However, it does not mention that the T400 is compatible with a PCIe graphics card in the dock. You should not think that Lenovo forgot to update this information. On the contrary, Lenovo most probably deliberately didn't mention the T400 here as it is not supported (no matter whether Vista, XP or any other OS).

Well, I am sure that it works on the T400 because of this:
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... ing&page=2
However, it's not clear if it will work with Vista.
I do have to disagree with you about Lenov updating their website. They do an atrocious job of providing accurate and up to date info on their site. There are many misleading and contradiciting peices of information on their website.

I also noticed that if you try to buy a T400 from lenovo.com, it offers you both the advanced mini dick and advanced dock as an accessory before you complete your order. I know that the mini dock works because I currently have one.

Based on that, I would say its a safe bet that it works with the T400 too. The question again is Vista and the PCI card with 4 monitors.
