LED Backlight

#1 Post by ryan1212 » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:42 pm

The LED Backlight options seemed to have disappeared from lenovos website. A week or so ago they were listed as "may delay shipping date". Did lenovo discontinue the option, or are they having supply issues??

Probably, they are currently experiencing over-demand. I´m sure it will appear again in a few days.

LED doesn´t have anything to do with the type of the panel (in your case IPS). LED (=Light-emitting diode) stands for the type of the backlit used in the screen. Current screens come with two types of backlits - LED and CCFL (=Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). Compared to CCFL, LED is more power-efficient (means longer battery life) and offers significantly more brightness. If you want best of both worlds on a laptop, go for X200t (IPS + LED available) :) FYI LED cannot compensate for the poor viewing angels and poor color accuracy of the current (TN panels) displays (*disclaimer*) though...

Cheers,

Marin

I'm always being bothered by those poor viewing angels... :)

Pity Lenovo won't let me buy an LED-lit screen here in the UK!

Even if you were able to buy a LED-backlit screen, you will be still being bothered by the poor viewing angles ;) (disclaimer: "the poor viewing angles" are so IMO)

How irritating. I was all ready to order a fully loaded T400 today and the sales department on the 800 # is down all day and then when I goto the web site the option for LED backlight is gone! Ugghh! Any ideas when, and if, the option will return?

I spoke with Lenovo regarding this. It is still an option, however they are back ordered presently therefore it does not appear. The rep told me that when in stock it will reappear on the site. I asked approx when it would be available, and no estimate was given.

Cheers...

Dears,
for Lenovo to cater better in U.K you will have to fool them into beliving that market share is
sizably increasing as in India. Then you will get things cheaper also.

ps: we dont get LED backlit here also and neither a WXGA+. [ they think we are still literate at only what is
considered a very advanced level in that country just above us on the Globe].

Just a hint: you can find such and similar info in the Tabook (available as a sticky) ;)
