Only use bay hdd possible?

Is it possible, to only use a bay pata hdd in a T400 / T500 and remove sata hdd at all?

I´m not sure I understand your question. If you mean booting off the ultrabay HD without having a HD in the mainbay, yes, this is possible.

The T400/500 platform has no PATA drive support at all on the planar (motherboard). The only way you can use a PATA drive with a T400/500 is via an external USB connected drive enclosure.

To add to what bill bolton pointed out:

So, if you want to boot off the ultrabay, you will have to use a SATA drive.

I see. There is a new lenovo ultrabay for T400/T500 series to use pata hdds, but I'd need to boot from it.

I believe the point of bill bolton was exactly that T400/T500 cannot handle a PATA drive in the ultrabay.
