Does anyone have specs/details on this....

14.1" WXGA TFT HN w/LED BL [add AU$378.29]
High-Nit LED back-lit display - This Ultra-bright display gives improved viewing when working outdoors

... which has very recently appeared as an option for the T400 on the Lenovo Australia web site?

This is in addition to the normal LED backlight option.... 14.1" WXGA+ TFT w/ LED BL [add AU$71.50]

Cheers,

Bill

I wish this had been an option when I bought my T400. Looking forward to any reviews of using these LCD's outdoors.

So this is different from the **REGULAR** LED backlight then?

I am wondering why Lenovo does not offer RGB LED back light .

Would this be the same display my T400 was configured with on launch day? I'm talking about the one I can shine the sun in and still see it.

I suppose that the high-nit panel which is offered in Australia might be the same panel which tabook (PSREF Version 352) lists for a T400 6474 (GMA):
14.1" (358.1mm) WXGA (1280x800) color, anti-glare, LED backlight,
high brightness 680 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 300:1 contrast ratio

I am in process of ordering T400 with LED Backlight, camera screen. I noticed the option for WXGA+ is not there anymore just WXGA. Does anyone know if the WXGA+ is coming back? Should it really matter to me?

I'd take a look on the contrast difference, this is what would matter most to me. However if you have good eyes and prefer to have more screen real estate, go for higher resolution. It is also possible that WXGA+ panels are still available from third party companies that sell lenovo notebooks.

I am not really sure on what a contrast ratio is. I mainly use my current T60 with a dock and external monitors. but when not docked the screen is so dull it bugs me. The LED should be brighter right? Should I care about WXGA or WXGA+

The contrast ratio is a measure of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system is capable of producing. Ever seen a display which is all gray on gray? That was surely one with low contrast ratio :)

With the LED is should be a good contrast. I am more concerned with the WXGA vs WXGA+

The backlight has no influence on contrast. It can be, that panels with LED have usually also good contrast, though.

So is WXGA good? If I wait do you think there will be a LED Backlight WXGA+ option?

it depends on how long you would be willing to wait... I believe with the next update of the ThinkPads line Lenovo will introduce even the higher res. screens with LED backlit. WXGA would be not very usable to me. WXGA+ makes a big difference on a 14'' wide screen.

According to lenovo training videos, led backlight provides better contrast. Lenovo powerpoint presentation see slide 8.

If you are curious about the high nit display we published our review about it a few days ago.

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.a ... nkpad+t400

In the forum I copied the side by side shots with it against my flexview/IPS T60 like what was done with the first LED backlit T400 to compare colors and image quality.

Shots of the original LED-backlit T400 screen (NOT high brightness)

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4569

Scroll down to the screen section where I have the shots of the Ferrari.

For the new high brightness T400 I recreated those shots with the same picture side by side. These I posted in the NBR forums.

Overall screen looks great, backlight bleed is minimal in normal brightness ranges and colors look good.
