T500, Lenovos highend model?

I am considering buying a new laptop to replace my 2.1GHZ T41P which i upgraded over the years.

I have been looking at the W500 and T500, and according to the specs at Lenovo the T500 seems to be their highend model, LED display which the W500 doesn't have.

Is the T500 the best right now from Lenovo? will Lenovo release any new T-models soon replacing T400/500?

Best I guess would depend on your goal. I wouldn't get overly enthused about the LED screen. While they are brighter and offer a bit more battery life, they don't have better image quality or viewing angles.

Lenovo will most likely refresh the T series when Intel offers new CPUs.

Judging by the Lenovo product cycle of the lest two years, the next release in the ThinkPad line will be most likely only slight refreshment/improvement of the current one (like slightly more powerful/power-efficient cpus), but nothing really major. The actual major step in the ThinkPad line has already been done with the new T400/T500 (as well as R400/R500, W500/W700 etc) and the Montevina platform. There is also some chance that the next refreshment of line gets slightly better screens.

Yes, Lenovo will release new T series as part of their product cycle, but the question is how long you are willing to wait and what you are willing to wait for (hardware-wise).

Regarding the screen, I would really suggest taking a look at this thread, where you can find somewhat reasonable "comparisons" between WSXGA+ screen resolution and LED-backlit screen (since both cannot be configured together). IMO LED-backlit screens are overestimated by many people.

Hope this helps,

Marin

I could not agree more regarding LED backlit screens. While they are quite nice, I do think that they are highly overrated. Of course there are many variables when it comes to display size, type, and quality, yet I find the LED backlit displays on the laptops I have are not all that earth shattering.

Cheers...
