Brand spankin' new T500 - Love it!

#1 Post by Slick_tu » Sun Mar 22, 2009 1:25 pm

Hi All, First post. I've been reading some forum posts and have already gotten some great help.

I ordered an Elite T500 (to replace my A22m) on 3/9, canceled and re-ordered on 3/10 for the better discount and received it 3/20 even with expected 4-6 week delay for the LED screen! When configuring/pricing at the Lenovo site, I found I got a few extras I didn't want (Bluetooth, DVD burner) for free AND even saved a couple hundred over an identical config. (without the two above) of the T500 w/ discrete graphics. :D The Elite is the same machine with some options as standard. I got: 2.5Ghz, Win XP downgrade (thank goodness), LED screen, 3gb ram, 160gb 7200rpm drive, Turbo Mem. 2gb, WiFi 5300, 6 cell batt., no Mobile. Most of this was standard except for the extra RAM, LED, 7200 drive, and Turbo Memory.

I also ordered (but didn't receive yet) the 2nd HDD caddy and second battery for the ultra bay. I opted for the standard 6 cell battery because they say the 9 cell sticks out the back a little and I thought it might interfere with the mini-dock I bought some time ago (I had to cancel the T61 order but didn't send the minidock back that had already arrived). I figured with the second battery in the bay, the 6 cell would be plenty.

Wow! what a difference over my A22m (also XP) 512 RAM! However, I think I would rate the T500 keyboard feel a 9.8 compared to a 10 for the A22m.

The only issue has been dropped Internet connections or times it won't load a page ("Waiting") even though the icon says it's connected with 54Mbps and excellent strength. I've made a few tweaks I read about in the forums and also read the firmware in my router may be old and causing drops. I have a Linksys g router that's a couple years old so I may need to go to something newer. The connections are fine when hardwired to the router, and my A22 is fine when this one is out.

Sorry if I was a little long-winded. I'm certainly glad to be here and looking forward to A LOT of great info. TIA, Rick.

I went through some of this with my T61p. The first thing I would try is change power management in (a) the card driver (Device Manager), (b) Power Management, and (c) Access Connections to Maximum Performance. ... JDH
