T400 Audio Problem

I got a T400 last week and everything seemed great. Then I discovered a problem. When in advanced mini dock the external speakers weren't working from dock or from T400. I remove T400 from dock and external speakers still not working. It is like it doesn't sense anything is plugged into the external jack. I updated bios. Support says there is nothing else to try and I should send it in. ideas?

For what it is worth I installed a new audio driver and it seemed to fix it. Tech support assured me this was not necessary. I have been a exclusively a Thinkpad guy for over 10 years both personally and for my companies and I can tell you with 100% conviction that tech support has REALLY gone down the tubes.
