T400 + advanced mini-doc 2 externals monitors

#1 Post by tidj » Mon Apr 13, 2009 6:56 pm

Hey, I purchased a t400 from lenovo.com

Model: t400
graphic: Intel GMA X4500
display: 14.1" WXGA TFT HN w/LED B

Is it possible with the Advanced Mini-Dock (175$) to plug two externals monitors ?
The lenovo support guy (on phone) answered me NO. He sayed that I need an advanced dock with an additional video-card (370$+~100$). BUT, why at their website I can read for the description of the mini-doc:
Video Ports: DVI-D (digital), VGA (analog) allows for two monitors (one digital and one analog) to attach

AND i can also read that:
ThinkPad and DVI Pass-Through using ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock (2504) and ThinkPad Advanced Dock (2503)

* Selected ThinkPad models offer DVI Pass-Through capability.
* This allows two monitors to attach to a:
o ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock (2504)
o ThinkPad Advanced Dock (2503)
* The first monitor must be analog and attaches to the VGA port on the dock.
* The second monitor must be digital and attaches to the DVI-D port on the dock.
* The ThinkPad display is disabled (screen is blank).
++
T400 is supported by the ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock (2504) and ThinkPad Advanced Dock (2503).

So, I recall the lenovo support and ask the same question to an another support guy. He sayed me the same thing: you need an advanced dock + an additional graphic card.

So i will ask the same questions to thinkpad experts: is a t400 + mini-doc + vga monitor + dvi monitor is working ?

tanx.
