Need Advice LED Screen or Higher Display Card

#1 Post by bdneenm » Fri Apr 17, 2009 11:22 am

Hi,

I need some advice. I recently purchased a T400 WXGA+ CCFL laptop with the upgraded ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 card. I initially chose this option because the LED screen did not have a WXGA+ option. However I just recently came across that option (WXGA+, LED Screen), but the video card is the default Intel 4500MHD. My question is two fold.

1. Is it worth returning my current laptop and getting the LED screen with the default Intel 4500MHD Card? Or should I just keep the CCFL screen with the ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 card.

2. Is there that much of a difference in the LED screen brightness as compared to the CCFL in terms of color accuracy (whites look white, and blacks looks black).

For me, I would personally say no. If you return the machine, you're looking at a 15% restocking fee, which is almost impossible to get around. The LED is brighter and offers a little more battery life, but I would not say it's markedly better than the CFFL screen, but everyone's different. The graphics card only adds value if you need it. If you're just doing Office and Internet, you probably don't.

Thanks Fred. Although I'm yet to see side by side the LED vs CCFL screen after taking a second look at the CCFL screen at the store, it really didn't look that bad. I've seen brighter screens, but I will stick with my current configuration. Thanks.
