What Mfg Makes 320GB-7200rpm HD for T500?

#1 Post by archer6 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 3:34 pm

My new T500 has a 320GB-7200rpm hard drive.

I'm trying to identify who manufactured it. This was an easy task in the past, as all one had to do was a parts lookup and the manufacturer of the various components were listed. However as many of you know, this is no longer the case. Anyone have any tips as to how I might obtain this info?

Thanks

archer6, go into device manager, and look under disk drives. Google the part number found there.

And I'll bet it's a Hitachi 7K320, just like the 160GB drive that came in my X200s.

Considering IBM, now Lenovo's been using that brand forever, I bet you're right..... :D
I will be looking it up later and post the results, as I'm using another ThinkPad now.

For the sake of completeness:

Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information -> Components -> Storage -> Disks

It´s actually surprising how much info Vista (and Win 7) System Information can deliver

Cheers,

Well, it's no surprise to find that it's a typical (for IBM/Lenovo) Hitachi Travelstar. They've been using them for years, and I followed that choice for a long time. Only recently trying some others (WD Scorpio Blue & Black) since the reports have been so good. That said I hadn't checked in a while so I looked this one up and most specifically it's:

Hitachi Travelstar Model: HTS723232L9SA61 Part # 0A57527

2.5" 320GB 7200rpm Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s

Cheers...

And indeed the 0A57527 is ... the 320GB version of the 7K320. :)

You could have simply removed it. One screw and it slides right out.

That's too easy, and it takes all the fun out of it. Besides I reserve removing the drive for those times when I'm ready to upgrade it.....ha..ha...ha.
