CD Drive gone missing on T500

Most strange. My CD drive doesn't appear on My Computer and can not even be seen in device manager.

any suggestions how to recover it?

It look like you found your solution across the street.
T60 2623-D7U, 3 GB Ram.
Dual boot XP and Linux Mint.
