T400 Won't Stay Asleep

#1 Post by Amazingracer » Thu Apr 30, 2009 7:37 am

As of late when I send my T400(Vista x64) to sleep/standy by any means, the computer will go to sleep and turn on the sleep light on the lid. As soon as the sleep light comes on the computer immediately wakes back up and returns to full power.

Any ideas on this because Im stumped. Ive looked thorugh all the power settings I could find.

Go to BIOS and disable wake on LAN. I´m not sure but there could be similar setting under Device Manager -> your wifi card -> power management too (disabling this option from within BIOS would be a cardinal solution though).

I recently used Zender's modified BIOS to allow me to use a Dell 5720 Sprint Card in my T400. I thought it had something to do with that so I took out the Sprint card just now and left Zender's modified BIOS on the machine and it goes to sleep just fine. And when I put the card back in, sure enough the computer no longer stays asleep.

So it seems to be related to the Sprint card. I looked in Device Manager -> Power Management and the Wake on LAN box is unchecked for all network cards and the Sprint card.

Any ideas now that I have found the source?
Thanks in advance!

Does this WWAN card have any power management options under Device Manager? That would be the first place to look, and then, of course, again into BIOS :)

BTW, welcome to the forum! :)

Under Power Management for the WWAN Card there are two options:
-Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power (Checked)
-Allow this device to wake this computer (Unchecked)

Also I went back and set Wake On LAN in the BIOS to Disabled.

And just to be thorough I unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" leaving both boxes unchecked in Power Management and it still wont stay in standby.

Alright Ive dug a little deeper and it seems as though its the drivers for the card causing problems. If I uninstall the drivers or disable the card in Device Manager, while still leaving the card physically in the system the computer will sleep. As soon as I re-enable the device or re-install drivers, the problem returns. Seems as though I need some better drivers.

You could try windows update for applicable drivers.
